STEAMcube is a special-purpose flowmeter developed for the measurement of saturated steam. It has a built-in pressure compensation function and is capable of accurate mass flow rate measurement even when there are pressure fluctuations. The required upstream straight pipe length is extremely short, so this flowmeter can be installed in places where it was previously impossible to put a flowmeter. Its small size also facilitates a more compact design of the overall equipment.
Handles changes in steam conditions during mass flow rate measurement.
Short upstream straight pipe length is ideal for all types of piping layouts
Handles low flow rates without an interruption in output.
Low pressure loss and high range coverage overturn conventional limits on differential type flowmeters.
Simultaneous analog and pulse output
Dual sensors
The sensors used in STEAMcube simultaneously measure differential and static pressure, allowing the successful calculation of the mass flow rate output. The static sensor compensates for changes in density, which is important when measuring the flow rate of steam; and STEAMcube has an internal steam table for calculation of steam temperature from a static pressure value at a saturated steam pressure.
Since the dual sensors are more responsive than the temperature compensation method ordinarily used in vortex flowmeters, and because they respond to pressure fluctuations caused by opening/closing the steam trap, they provide a more accurate output.
Self water sealed structure
Even a sturdy transmitter becomes hot if it makes direct contact with steam. In the self water sealed structure, drained steam protects the transmitter (diaphragm). Drained steam will not revaporize unless thermal energy greater than the latent heat of vaporization is applied. Therefore, a shift in the zero point caused by conventional filling of water sealing liquid or a change of liquid level will not occur. Since only the pressure receiver part of the transmitter is water-sealed into the self water sealed structure, sludge that flows along with the steam moves downward due to its own weight and is not deposited in the connecting pipe. Furthermore, even during non-service period in winter, there is no need to drain the water to prevent it from freezing. Even if it freezes, the expanding water simply overflows into the piping. Therefore no excessive pressure due to expanded volume occurs, and distortion (drift) does not permanently affect the transmitter.
